Trent University's Canadian Studies Diploma is offered through the School for the Study of Canada / École d'études canadiennes for students who want to spend a single academic year, from September to April, studying Canadian political economy, society, environment, and culture in a global context. Interdisciplinary coursework is organized across four areas: culture, literature, and the arts; policy, economy, and society; identities and social movements; and space, place, and region, encouraging engagement with Canadian history, institutions, ideology, and social justice. Applicants must be registered in, or graduates of, an accredited post-secondary institution other than Trent, and must submit a written application to the program chair indicating course preferences along with an official transcript. Because space is limited, acceptance is not automatic; the program coordinator selects candidates in consultation with the Admissions Committee. On completion, students may transfer credits toward a Trent BA in Canadian Studies or apply for admission to that degree.
