Canadian Studies at Trent University is a Bachelor of Arts (General) program housed in the School for the Study of Canada / Ecole d'etudes canadiennes. Students examine the diverse and often contested meanings of the Canadian experience and Canadian citizenship, considering how the nation remains the primary administrative and imaginative unit organizing people's lives even as transnational forces draw growing attention. The program's focus is the Canadian nation viewed in a global context. Interdisciplinary Canadian Studies courses are grouped into four areas: culture, literature, and the arts; policy, economy, and society; identities and social movements; and space, place, and region. Across these four areas, students engage with Canadian history, institutions, ideology, and social justice from multiple disciplinary perspectives, examining Canada both on its own terms and in relation to broader global and transnational currents.
