Overview

The Postgraduate Certificate in Accounting is offered at Trent University's Peterborough campus to graduates who hold an undergraduate degree in a subject other than accounting from an accredited university. The certificate covers the undergraduate accounting courses required by CPA Ontario, preparing graduates to work in the accounting field, enrol in accredited graduate accounting programs, or enter the CPA Professional Education Program. The program consists of 9.0 credits: 7.0 credits in Administrative Studies (ADMN), 1.5 credits in Economics (ECON), and 0.5 credits in Computing & Information Systems (COIS). CPA Ontario requires a grade of at least 50% in non-core courses and at least 60% in core courses, with an overall average of 65% in core courses required for entry to the CPA Professional Education Program; a minimum cumulative average of 60% is required to graduate. The program is available full-time to domestic and international students and part-time to domestic students only. Students who hold a Trent undergraduate degree in Business Administration may apply up to 3.5 credits from that degree toward the certificate; other Trent graduates may apply up to 1.0 credit.
