Overview

The Bachelor of Translation - Co-operative Program is a four-year on-campus degree at Universite de Moncton, combining academic study with paid work-term placements. Students complete their first year at the Edmundston or Shippagan campus before continuing years two through four at the Moncton campus; enrolment is limited by the number of available work-term placements. The co-operative stream begins in year two, once students have passed all first-year courses with a cumulative average of at least 2.70 and a minimum C+ in all French (FRAN) and translation (TRAD) courses; students must maintain this standing throughout the program or be transferred to the regular, non-co-op stream. The 120-credit curriculum trains generalist translators for professional work across administrative, commercial, economic, and technical translation, as well as the related field of terminology, while three mandatory 12-to-16-week work terms give students direct workplace experience with employers. Graduates receive the B. Trad. degree with the co-operative designation noted on the diploma, having completed all placements successfully.
