Program details

Overview

Four-year, 120-credit Baccalaureat preparing students to teach French as a second language to elementary and secondary students and to non-francophone adult learners. The curriculum builds progressively: year one introduces FSL teaching, year two focuses on primary-level instruction, year three covers secondary and adult education, and year four centres on professional integration, all within a reflective-practice and self-evaluation approach that draws on community resources and collaboration. The program includes 700 hours of supervised practicum (stages) and requires students to keep a portfolio of reflective summaries throughout training, concluding with a final project presented at a multi-program colloquium. Courses run full-time during the day at the Montreal campus, with close links between coursework and practicum placements. Graduates are prepared to teach French as a second language across elementary, secondary, and adult-education settings.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need a Diplome d'etudes collegiales (DEC) or equivalent, or a minimum of 24 university credits. Since Winter 2026, applicants must demonstrate French proficiency either through secondary, pre-university, or university studies completed entirely in French, through at least 60% average in francophone secondary courses or 60 university credits completed in French, or through an approved French test with a minimum C1 in listening and reading comprehension taken within the 24 months before the program starts. Selection for college and university applicants is based solely on the strength of the academic record, and places are limited. A criminal record check is required for school placements, and some vaccinations are required for practicum settings.
