Program details

Overview

This graduate program leads to a Master's degree in public health from Université de Montréal, offered full-time or part-time through day courses on the Montreal campus. It covers core public health domains including epidemiological surveillance, health promotion, environmental health, global health, One Health approaches, and the analysis of health systems and policy, with coursework spanning epidemiology, biostatistics, health planning and evaluation, and qualitative research methods. Students choose between a thesis pathway centred on research and an internship pathway centred on practice, and within either pathway select one of six areas of concentration: health promotion, epidemiological surveillance, environmental health, global health, One Health, or health systems and policy. The program draws applicants from varied backgrounds, including psychology, chemistry, sociology, political science, and nursing, as well as health professionals seeking to advance their careers, and requires a bachelor's degree along with a stated level of French proficiency. It suits students who want either a research-oriented route into public health or a more practice-based route through a supervised internship, and who are prepared to engage with English-language course materials alongside French-language instruction.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: This programme accepts applicants from a wide range of undergraduate backgrounds - psychology, communications, chemistry, political science, sociology, any health discipline, and education, among others, as well as practising professionals - provided they hold a bachelor's degree; the page does not publish a minimum grade-point average, weighing instead the overall excellence of the academic file. Applicants who completed their prior studies entirely in French are considered to satisfy the language requirement; those with partial French schooling must meet set French-credit or diploma thresholds, and those educated in another language must score at least C1 in oral comprehension (as low as B2 for written expression) on an accepted French test (DELF, DALF, TCF, etc.) by 15 May 2027, since instruction is in French - though good written English is recommended given the discipline's largely English-language literature. Required documents include a letter of intent and a CV, with relevant work experience considered an asset. Because graduates undertake placements in health and social-services settings, a criminal background check and specific immunisations are mandatory. The programme begins in Autumn, with applications due 1 February 2027.
