Overview
This short undergraduate certificate at Universite du Quebec a Chicoutimi focuses on improving the transmission of an Indigenous language. The 15-credit program is delivered in person at the Saguenay campus and consists of five required courses: an introduction to Indigenous languages, phonetics and phonology, morphology and syntax, linguistic revitalization and acquisition processes, and a supervised project. It is intended for people who already have some connection to an Indigenous language and want to build the linguistic and pedagogical grounding needed to pass that language on to others, for example within a community or teaching setting. Instruction combines theoretical work in linguistics with an applied, supervised component so students can put revitalization and acquisition strategies into practice. As a short program at the certificate level, it can be completed on its own or count toward further study, and sits alongside UQAC's other short programs in Indigenous languages and studies.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Regular entry requires a Quebec DEC. Applicants may also enter with at least fifteen completed university credits and a cumulative average of at least 2.3 on 4.3, or by demonstrating appropriate knowledge, aptitude for university study, and at least one year of experience relevant to the program's field.
