Overview
The PhD in Engineering is a 90-credit doctoral programme centred on the applied nature of the research projects undertaken by each candidate. Students carry out original, industry-relevant research under the supervision of a thesis director, working toward a doctoral thesis grounded in engineering practice and application. Most of the 90 credits are earned through directed research activities rather than coursework, culminating in a written doctoral thesis that is defended before an examination committee. The programme is delivered in person and admits new students in the Fall, Winter, and Summer terms, allowing candidates to begin their research at several points in the year. It is intended for holders of a relevant master's degree, or candidates with substantial professional and research experience in engineering, who wish to pursue advanced applied research connected to industrial or organizational practice.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a master's degree (professional M.Sc.A. or research-based) with a cumulative average of at least 3.2 on 4.3 in engineering or an equivalent related field; candidates with an average between 2.8 and 3.19 on 4.3 may be admitted conditionally, subject to three to six credits of prerequisite coursework. Applicants who obtained their diploma outside Quebec, after at least eighteen years of schooling, must have an average of at least 12 on 20, with candidates averaging between 10 and 11.99 on 20 admitted conditionally under the same prerequisite-coursework requirement. Under the sufficient-preparation route, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, have at least five years of relevant experience, and have a research record including at least one publication as principal author in a journal with an impact factor.
