This bachelor's degree trains geological engineers for careers spanning mining, geotechnical, and environmental sectors. The 120-credit program builds on core geology knowledge and extends into geotechnics, mineral exploration, and environmental management, reflecting the profession's expanding scope. Students study subsurface material characterization, site investigation methods, and resource evaluation techniques, combining classroom instruction with applied engineering coursework. Graduates who complete the program meet the academic requirements to seek membership with the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec, the province's professional engineering order. The program is delivered on campus at UQAC's Saguenay location and is offered in both full-time and part-time study regimes. Admission is possible in the fall and winter terms, and the program is open to international applicants studying full-time. Entry routes include holding a relevant Quebec DEC, an equivalent non-Quebec credential, prior university-level coursework, or documented relevant work experience in an earth-sciences field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must satisfy one of four admission bases. Holders of a Quebec DEC in Natural Sciences (200.B1), Science, Computer Science and Mathematics (200.C1), or Science, Letters and Arts (700.A1) are eligible, as are holders of an equivalent DEC who have met the required collegial objectives and standards. Applicants with a non-Quebec general or technological baccalaureate in mathematics, chemistry, physics, or Earth sciences may be admitted if they hold knowledge equivalent to the required collegial objectives and standards. Applicants with at least 15 university-level credits and a cumulative average of at least 2.3/4.3 may also be admitted. Applicants without these credentials may be admitted on the basis of sufficient preparation, demonstrated through at least three months of relevant experience in an Earth-sciences-related field, attested in writing.
