Overview
This 90-credit undergraduate program leads to a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in psychology, offered by the Faculty of Human Sciences at the Montreal campus on a full-time or part-time basis, with admission in the fall (216 places) and winter (40 places) terms. Prerequisite coursework in statistics and human biology is required. The curriculum begins with foundational training in the history of psychology, epistemology, and methodology, then covers neurophysiology, perception, learning, cognition, emotion, personality, lifespan development, psychopathology, social psychology, and community psychology. Students may focus on one of nine areas, including cognitive-behavioural, neuropsychology, psychodynamic, community, developmental, educational, humanistic, social, or work and organizational psychology. The program includes observation workshops described as unique to the institution, introducing students to observation in intervention or research settings, along with an option to complete an honours thesis or an applied psychology internship (stage). Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry is competitive, capped at 216 seats in fall and 40 in winter (winter limited to the DEC, university-studies and outside-Quebec bases). Direct entry is via a DEC in Natural Sciences with a minimum cote de rendement (cote R) of 25, or any DEC with a cote R of 25 plus the prerequisite courses Statistiques appliquées en sciences humaines (201-SH5-RE) or equivalent and Biologie humaine (101-SH1-RE) or equivalent; missing prerequisites must be completed within four months of the first term via POL1850 or STT0100 and/or BIO0300. Applicants may alternatively qualify with at least 10 university courses (30 credits) and a cumulative average of 3.15/4.3, with a diploma from outside Quebec after at least 13 years of schooling and a minimum average of 75%, or, for candidates over 21 with an otherwise insufficient file, an admission aptitude test (Test des scolaptitudes) offered in fall only. All candidates must prove French proficiency through the DEC's uniform French exam, the Quebec ministry's written test, or UQAM's own written French test; francophone-university graduates are exempt.
