MA/MS in Didactique des langues

The Master's in Language Didactics (Maîtrise en didactique des langues) at Université du Québec à Montréal deepens students' knowledge of the didactics of French as a language of instruction or first language, of French or English as a second language, or of foreign languages, preparing graduates for doctoral studies or for immediate employment. The program is offered through an L1 profile, for French as a first language or language of instruction, and an L2/LE profile, for second or foreign languages, and requires completion of a master's thesis (mémoire). The program totals 45 credits and runs over a nominal two years full-time or four years part-time, with courses offered mainly in the evening; admission is at the fall and winter terms. Admission requires a bachelor's degree completed with an average of at least 3.2 on a 4.3 scale, or the equivalent, or relevant experience; files between 2.7 and 3.2 may be reviewed by the admissions committee. Candidates without a background in didactics may be admitted through a bridging program or conditionally. Applicants whose prior studies were completed outside a francophone institution must pass a French-language test, and all candidates must demonstrate sufficient reading proficiency in English.
