Overview
This Diplome d'etudes superieures specialisees (DESS) focuses on fraud prevention and detection within accounting and financial environments. Delivered by Universite du Quebec a Montreal, the 24-credit program comprises seven mandatory courses covering fraud examination, forensic accounting, professional ethics, cybersecurity risk, financial investigation techniques, anti-corruption practice, and the legal framework surrounding financial fraud, together with a capstone project. Students build skills in identifying, investigating, and preventing fraudulent activity within organizations, preparing them for roles in forensic accounting, internal audit, compliance, and financial investigation. The program runs full-time over one year in a hybrid format combining online and in-person instruction, or part-time over two years in a co-modal format, with admission each fall and winter term. Candidates typically hold a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or management, though alternative pathways exist for graduates of related fields such as law or criminology who complete an accounting prerequisite, or who hold relevant management experience. The credential gives graduates specialized expertise for accounting and audit environments where fraud risk management is a priority.
