This program trains versatile engineers able to design, plan, execute, and analyze projects across the applications of electrical engineering, accounting for economic, environmental and social considerations. It leads to a Baccalauréat en ingénierie (Bachelor of Engineering) over 120 credits delivered across 8 sessions at the Rouyn-Noranda campus. Core coursework covers circuit theory, electromagnetic fields, electronics, control systems, industrial automation, power electronics, electrical machines, and electrical networks, alongside foundational courses in calculus, differential equations, and engineering economics. Students complete a two-part capstone design project (Conception en ingénierie I and II) and an applied final-year project, and may take up to three industrial internships as elective credits. The program addresses applications in renewable energy, mining, and infrastructure relevant to the region, and graduates are prepared for careers in energy production, manufacturing, mining, telecommunications, and engineering consulting.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The primary route requires a science-stream Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) including differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and general and solution chemistry; applicants missing specific courses may take equivalent UQAT upgrading courses (maximum 9 credits, within 12 months of first enrolment). Holders of a relevant technical DEC may qualify by completing the same course objectives. Out-of-province applicants need 13 years of schooling and a pre-university science diploma, with a minimum overall average of 12/20 (15/20 or higher accepted without reservation; 12-15/20 reviewed case by case, potentially with upgrading courses or a preparatory year). Applicants with prior university study need at least 15 university credits with a 2.2/4.3 average, plus the same collegial-level prerequisite knowledge. A mature-student route is available for applicants at least 21 years old with at least two years of full-time relevant work experience in engineering, supported by a CV and letter of motivation. All applicants must demonstrate French proficiency per UQAT's institutional policy.
