Overview
The Certificate in Artistic Production is a 30-credit undergraduate certificate at UQAT that gives students pursuing an arts career a foundational, personalized training in developing an artistic practice. It also lets students deepen an existing creative discipline, build an interdisciplinary approach by combining two or more disciplines, and develop the capacity to plan and complete personal creative projects. Students not pursuing an arts career but seeking a personal artistic education can also benefit and take part in the region's artistic and cultural life. Coursework includes three directed-creation ateliers, a course on integrating and presenting artistic projects, and either a supervised internship in a creative environment or an introduction to research-creation, plus nine elective credits chosen from courses such as light and space, the poetics of ruin, feminism and dialectics, narrative and fiction, or material culture. Classified under the Arts sector, the certificate can count toward a bachelor's degree earned by cumulating certificates.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is open on two bases. Under the collegial base, applicants must hold a Diplôme d'études collégiales (DEC) or the equivalent and submit a portfolio of their artistic experience. Under the experience base, applicants must be at least 21 years old, have relevant knowledge and experience gained through work, coursework, or personal production in the arts, and demonstrate the capacity to undertake university studies; they may be asked to provide supporting documentation, a portfolio, or attend an interview. Applicants with relevant training exceeding these minimum requirements may also be admitted. To register for the internship course, students must have completed the first three sessions with a cumulative average above 3.2/4.3 and have their portfolio approved by the programme coordinator.
