This program allows students to specialize in Indigenous territorial governance by combining certificate and microprogram credentials, mostly delivered at a distance, from UQAT's School of Indigenous Studies (École d'études autochtones), culminating in a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) awarded by cumulation. Its multidisciplinary, intercultural approach builds understanding of contemporary Indigenous issues, particularly territorial governance and management, along with the tools needed to contribute to sustainable territorial development. Students combine 90 credits across one of four approved combinations of certificates and microprograms, drawing from the Certificate in Indigenous Governance (4932), Certificate in Territorial Management in an Indigenous Context (4658), Certificate in Indigenous Studies (4554), Multidisciplinary Certificate (4828), and shorter microprograms in Indigenous tourism management or Indigenous studies. All candidates must complete the integrative course SOA5000 (after at least 60 completed credits in Indigenous studies) to synthesize their learning. Graduates typically work with Indigenous organizations such as band and tribal councils, or with government, private-sector, or non-governmental bodies that collaborate with Indigenous peoples.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission proceeds in three steps. First, the applicant selects one of four approved certificate/microprogram combinations and has it approved by the direction of the School of Indigenous Studies module, satisfying the individual admission and graduation requirements of each component program. Second, once the pathway is approved, the applicant completes the 'Request for a Bachelor's Degree by Cumulation of Certificates' form. Third, the applicant submits a separate admission application for each program in the combination; conditions apply for those wishing to pursue two or three component programs simultaneously. To graduate, applicants must pass the integrative course SOA5000 (Activité d'intégration en gouvernance territoriale autochtone) after completing at least 60 credits in Indigenous studies, and must demonstrate French proficiency per UQAT's institutional policy.
