Overview
This 90-credit PhD (Philosophiae Doctor), troisieme cycle, at UQAT trains scientists to bridge multiple environmental-science disciplines and work with the dynamic interdependencies of environmental systems, with UQAT-specific research strengths in forest management, characterization and valorization of wood materials, regional social sciences and development, and new and renewable energy. It is offered jointly with UQAM, UQTR, UQAC and UQAR and attached to the Institut des sciences de l'environnement. Required activities include an interdisciplinary seminar, a thesis project, an environmental synthesis, theoretical and epistemological frameworks of environmental science, a multidisciplinary action-project seminar and a 72-credit thesis, plus three elective credits. Admission requires a master's degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, obtained with a cumulative average of at least 3.2 on a 4.3 scale (files between 2.8 and 3.2 may still be reviewed), or a bachelor's degree with adequate knowledge, training and experience; candidates need sufficient French and English proficiency and must prepare a preliminary thesis proposal before admission. The programme can be completed full-time in 4 years or part-time in 6 years, with rolling admissions.
