Program details

Overview

This bachelor's program in mining engineering at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, located in a region with active mineral exploration, trains engineers in rock excavation and the handling of excavated materials, with coursework covering underground mining operations and their environmental considerations alongside applications in civil engineering projects such as tunnels, roads, and hydroelectric facilities. The program follows a mandatory cooperative education model: students complete a sequence of paid work terms in industry, each paired with an integrated academic project, culminating in a substantial capstone project. Coursework incorporates current technologies in mine automation and computerization. The program suits students aiming for careers in mine project evaluation, mine planning and design, mining operations management, mineral processing, environmental management, and site restoration, as well as those interested in large-scale civil engineering construction where excavation expertise applies. It is intended for students seeking a highly applied, industry-integrated engineering education combining technical coursework with sustained hands-on work experience rather than a purely classroom-based program.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Entry requires a Québec DEC in Natural Sciences (200.B0) with 201-NYA (Differential Calculus), 201-NYB (Integral Calculus), 201-NYC (Linear Algebra and Vector Geometry), 203-NYA (Mechanics), 203-NYB (Electricity and Magnetism), 203-NYC (Waves and Modern Physics) and 202-NYA (General Chemistry) or 202-NYB (Solution Chemistry); or a DEC in Mineral Technology (271.A0) with 201-NYA, 201-NYB, 201-NYC and 203-NYB, with any missing course made up at UQAT (though 201-NYA must be completed before admission). All candidates must satisfy UQAT's institutional French-proficiency policy, as the programme page defers language requirements to that policy. The programme is delivered jointly with Polytechnique Montréal, whose Cote-R-based offer practice the page describes: candidates from outside Québec must apply through Polytechnique Montréal directly.

Application Details

Application Deadline: UQAT's admission page states only that online applications open each term - September for Fall, 1 March for Winter and June for Summer - without giving a closing date for any of its bachelor's programmes (Mining Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Digital/3D/Video Game Creation, Social Work). No separate international deadline, and no programme-specific deadline for engineering or digital-creation programmes, is published on the general admission, international-student, or engineering-school pages; UQAT directs both domestic and international applicants to contact the registrar or the relevant program office for exact timing. The university does not describe its admission as rolling in these terms, but no fixed closing date for the 2026-2027 cycle appears anywhere checked. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
