This Diplome d'etudes superieures specialisees (DESS) in development social sciences provides holders of an undergraduate degree in social sciences with specialized theoretical and empirical knowledge for practice in territorial, international, and Indigenous development. The 30-credit program is organized around a common core plus a choice of specialization track, covering territorial development, international development, or Indigenous studies. Students build competencies for effective intervention in development settings, engage in critical reflection on development practices, examine successful practices, and develop creative approaches to addressing development challenges. The program targets graduates and professionals seeking applied, field-oriented graduate training rather than a research-based master's degree, preparing them for roles with development organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and Indigenous or community organizations. It is offered on a full-time or part-time basis, with admission in the Fall and Winter terms at the Gatineau campus.
