Overview
This bachelor of arts program (90 credits, three years full-time or part-time) covers the history and practice of cinematographic studies from early film through digital formats, combining theoretical and practical training. Students develop skills in directing, screenwriting, editing, visual effects, and production, while studying film language, aesthetics, and history, including independent and auteur cinema. Coursework also addresses cinema within digital culture, including networks, interactivity, and interfaces. All applicants submit a two-page motivation letter and a portfolio of prior work. The program is taught in French, with admission for the Fall term only. Graduates pursue careers in directing, cinematography, editing, sound engineering, film criticism, or cultural mediation, or continue to graduate studies in literature and screen arts. The program is offered on a full-time or part-time basis to accommodate different student schedules.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Quebec applicants need any DEC or equivalent university-level certification, along with a two-page motivation letter and a portfolio demonstrating potential through schoolwork, personal, or professional projects. Applicants from elsewhere in Canada need a secondary school diploma plus one year of university study, plus a motivation file and portfolio. International applicants need 13 years of pre-university education, or 12 years plus one year of higher education, or a French baccalaureat, or a Belgian certificate, plus a motivation file and portfolio. Non-francophone applicants must pass the TCF tout public test with a minimum score of 361/699 on the mandatory sections and 8/20 on the written expression component. English proficiency at the intermediate II level (ANL-2020 or VEPT score of 53) is required for degree completion. Admission is for the Fall term only.
