This certificate introduces students to literary works and their historical and cultural contexts while building rigorous analytical skills, with training designed to be flexible and adaptable to individual student needs. The 30-credit program is nominally one year of full-time study, with pacing that can be adjusted to part-time study, and up to 15 credits of prior learning may be recognized. Three required courses (9 credits) are combined with 21 elective credits chosen from categories spanning French literature, Quebec literature, Francophone literatures, Indigenous literatures, and literary theory and issues. Admission is offered in the Fall and Winter terms. The certificate serves students seeking a standalone grounding in literary analysis as well as those planning to continue into a related bachelor's program in literary studies.
