Literary Studies and Practices (PhD)

This PhD provides research training in French-language literature and literary research-creation. Students specialize in literary authors, movements, historical periods, theoretical questions, or creative practice, moving from coursework in the first year to thesis preparation and writing from the second year onward. The programme has an estimated full-time duration of four years and offers courses scheduled during the day and evening to accommodate different study arrangements. Applicants typically hold a master's degree in literary studies or an equivalent diploma; those with master's degrees in other fields may be admitted with additional preparatory coursework. A research supervisor must confirm acceptance in writing before admission. Admission also requires intermediate-level English proficiency, alongside French-language competency for non-francophone applicants. The doctoral thesis, developed under faculty supervision and evaluated by examiners, is the principal requirement for graduation.
