This PhD offers in-depth, multidisciplinary training across the full range of ancient studies, the only French-language programme of its kind in North America. Students specialize in areas including Greco-Roman antiquity, classical history and archaeology, ancient languages and literatures, ancient Christianity, patristics, Gnostic studies, Manichaeism, and ancient philosophy. The programme has an estimated full-time duration of four years and centres on an original doctoral thesis developed under faculty supervision, which must be secured before admission. Applicants require a master's degree in ancient studies or an equivalent diploma. Because the programme draws on primary sources in multiple languages, admission also requires demonstrated proficiency in French, English, German, Latin, and Greek at levels set by the department. Graduates are prepared for research and teaching careers in classics, ancient history, and related humanities fields.

Admission Requirements: Applicants require a master's degree in ancient studies or an equivalent diploma, and must secure a research supervisor's written confirmation before applying. The application includes a curriculum vitae, research project proposal, two assessment reports, and the supervisor's confirmation.
