This doctoral programme trains researchers to contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the development of new therapies across several medical fields, bridging fundamental and clinical research in multidisciplinary settings. Students have access to research facilities in genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, imaging, metabolism, and molecular and cellular biology, with specializations spanning canceriology, molecular endocrinology, metabolism, neuroimmunology, obesity, and cardiovascular physiology. The programme leads to the Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.), comprises 90 credits, and has a nominal duration of four years of full-time study; it must be pursued full-time. Admission requires a master's degree in biochemistry, microbiology, biology, chemistry, pharmacy, physics, medicine, or an equivalent qualification, and a minimum cumulative average of 3.00 on 4.33. Applicants must secure written confirmation from a faculty supervisor before applying, submit a CV, a one to two page motivation letter, a one to two page research proposal, and three academic reference reports, and complete the mandatory research-ethics course ETH-7900.
