This thesis-based Master of Science in Biochemistry examines the structure, evolution, and metabolic transformation of the chemical constituents of living organisms. Students undertake an original research project in areas such as protein structure and function, environmental microbiology, bioinformatics, or biophotonics, working within one of the department's research teams. The programme totals 45 credits, is designed for full-time completion in about two years, and requires a confirmed thesis supervisor before admission. Up to 6 credits may be recognized from prior learning. Graduates pursue careers in hospitals, biotechnology and pharmaceutical firms, agriculture, and research institutes, or continue to doctoral study.
