The Bachelor of Arts in English at University College of the North explores literature and cultural expression from diverse peoples, histories, and regions. Students develop critical thinking, reading, and writing skills while examining how human thought and culture are expressed through written and oral traditions. English is available as a three-year or four-year major, each requiring a set number of credit hours in the discipline, or as a minor combined with another major. Coursework draws on literary analysis, cultural criticism, and Indigenous and world literatures to give students a broad grounding in textual study. The program is delivered in person and follows UCN's standard academic year, beginning in September and running through to June. Graduates gain analytical writing, communication, and interpretive skills applicable to further study, teaching, publishing, and communications-related careers.
