Overview

The Culinary Arts program at University College of the North is a 10-month certificate that provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for employment in the culinary field. Students prepare and cook food in the UCN cafeteria as part of their practical training, with occupational safety and health practices emphasized throughout every course. The program runs from September to June at The Pas Campus and combines classroom instruction with supervised kitchen experience. Students who leave the program early, without completing the final two required courses, may instead receive a Commercial Cooking Aide certificate. Graduates of the full program receive a Culinary Arts certificate and are prepared for entry-level roles in commercial kitchens, food service, and hospitality settings, with further options to pursue advanced culinary or hospitality training.

Admission Requirements: Applicants need English 20F and, preferably, Pre-Calculus Mathematics 20S, Applied Mathematics 20S, or Essential Mathematics 20S, or equivalent standing as a mature student under section 2.01 of UCN's Academic Calendar.
