Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Engineering Physics Co-operative program at the University of Alberta sits at the intersection of electrical engineering, mathematics, applied physics, and the natural sciences. Students build a strong foundation in mathematics and physics and apply it through research-connected coursework in areas such as artificial intelligence, microelectronics, robotics, autonomous systems, and quantum computing, and may add a Nanoengineering Option within the degree. Admission is not available directly from high school; students enter through the Faculty of Engineering's common Foundational/Qualifying Year and choose Engineering Physics after completing first year, or transfer in based on prior coursework and GPA. Through the Co-op stream, students complete five paid, supervised four-month work terms in addition to the usual eight academic terms, extending the program to five years and combining coursework with industry experience. Graduates pursue careers such as engineering physicist, hardware engineer, photonics engineer, and robotics engineer.
