Overview
This Master of Forestry with a specialization in Ecology and Ecosystem Restoration is a course-based graduate degree offered on campus by the University of Alberta's Department of Renewable Resources, within the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, alongside the department's course-based Master of Agriculture and thesis-based MSc and PhD programs. Departmental research and coursework span conservation biology, forest ecology and management, agriculture and the environment, land and water reclamation, and environmental soil science. A joint course-based program with the Faculty of Business also allows students to combine the Master of Forestry with an MBA over two years of full-time study. Admission Requirements: The Department's minimum admission requirement is an appropriate undergraduate degree with an admission GPA of at least 3.0 on the 4-point scale, calculated on the last 60 units of graded coursework (or the equivalent of the last two years of full-time study), from the University of Alberta or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. Applicants to the Master of Forestry must hold a BSc in Forestry or a BSc in an allied discipline such as Geography, Biological Sciences, Agriculture or Environmental and Conservation Sciences. Where applicable, applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency, for example a TOEFL iBT score of at least 90 for tests written before January 21, 2026 (or 4.5 on the new scale for tests on or after that date), or an equivalent score on another approved English language exam. Applicants must also submit a curriculum vitae, a research statement form and three letters of reference.
