Program details

Overview

This combined degree program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Conservation Sciences and a Bachelor of Arts in Native Studies. Students major in Human Dimensions of Environmental Management, focusing on stewardship of Indigenous lands within the context of government policy and industrial development, and on how Indigenous history, politics, and cultural values shape natural resource management. The program can be completed through either the Faculty of Native Studies or the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences, and students remain enrolled in their chosen faculty for the duration of the degree. It includes a three-week environmental field school. The University of Alberta's Faculty of Native Studies is the only independent faculty of its kind in Canada, with small class sizes and a mixed Indigenous and non-Indigenous student population, and offers undergraduates opportunities to participate in research incorporating traditional Indigenous knowledge alongside contemporary Indigenous experiences.
