Overview

This Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies, jointly offered by the University of Alberta's Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences and Faculty of Arts, approaches climate change, natural resource depletion, pollution and biodiversity loss through scientific, cultural, economic and political perspectives, drawing on food systems, natural resources, biology, geology, history and sociology. Students choose one of three concentrations: Culture, Society, and Peoples of Canada, which draws on Indigenous perspectives and resource management; Politics, Society, and the Global Environment; or Food and Society, focused on sustainable agriculture and food production. The program is delivered on campus, with an optional Certificate in Sustainability built around independent projects addressing real-world environmental problems and a Semester in the North option at Yukon University. It suits students who want to build scientific literacy and critical-thinking skills for careers or further graduate study in sustainability, environmental policy or environmental education.
