This program leads to a Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences at the University of Calgary's Faculty of Science, delivered on campus. It is a multidisciplinary degree allowing students to concentrate on two specialties chosen from biology, chemistry, computer science, geoscience, mathematics, and physics, with learning built around actively working through problems in class, tutorials, and the laboratory. The program includes lab work, study-abroad opportunities, field school options, and access to the optional Arts and Science Honours Academy. Sample courses include energy transformations, general chemistry covering structure and bonding, mechanics, science in society, and research design and statistical analysis. No co-operative work term, thesis, or practicum component is described. The program suits students who want both depth in one scientific area and breadth across others rather than a single-discipline major. Graduates take up varied roles depending on their chosen specialties, and the degree also serves as a stepping-stone to graduate study or to professional programs in law, medicine, veterinary medicine, or architecture.
