Atmospheric Science studies weather prediction and climate patterns through mathematics, chemistry, physics and geography. Students examine short- and long-range weather and climate forecasting, severe weather, climate variability, the ozone hole, air quality and air-sea interactions, developing an understanding of how solar heating, moisture condensation and ocean-atmosphere interaction shape climate systems. The program offers several focus streams, including weather analysis and forecasting, climate science, atmospheric chemistry and physics, and general atmospheric sciences. It is offered by the Faculty of Science, entered through the Physical, Earth, Math and Computer Sciences admission group. The program prepares students for further study or careers in meteorology, climate science and environmental monitoring, combining classroom instruction with quantitative and observational coursework in the atmospheric sciences.

Admission Requirements: Applicants apply through the Faculty of Science in the Physical, Earth, Math and Computer Sciences group. Prerequisites are Grade 12 (or equivalent senior secondary) English or French matching the language of instruction, Grade 12 mathematics (precalculus or calculus), and two of Grade 12 Biology, Chemistry or Physics. McGill's requirements vary by educational background (Quebec CEGEP, Ontario, other Canadian provinces, U.S. or international curricula); grades equal to or above published minimums do not guarantee admission, and applications are reviewed against the complete academic record. English proficiency (e.g. IELTS Academic 6.5, TOEFL iBT 90) is required unless the applicant is exempt.
