Program details
Overview
Culture and Technology Studies is a four-year Bachelor of Arts program that examines the connections between technology, human experience, culture, and society. Students gain hands-on experience across arts, humanities, and computer science, developing skills in digital storytelling, programming, podcasting, and online publishing. The program offers three areas of specialization: Performance, Making and Design; Storytelling and Public Humanities; and Power, Identities, and Equity, allowing students to focus their studies on production, critical analysis, or the social and political dimensions of technology. A co-operative education option extends the program to four and a half years with up to four work terms. Culture and Technology Studies can be combined with a minor or second major. Graduates pursue careers and further study in digital media, publishing, user experience, cultural industries, and related fields that combine humanities training with technical skill.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to the Culture and Technology Studies Bachelor of Arts (BA) follows the University of Guelph's general Ontario Secondary School admission process: an applicant's admission average is calculated from their top six completed 4U/M (or equivalent) courses, including any courses required for the program. Cut-off averages vary by year based on application volume and space available, and Guelph publishes program-specific course and average guidance through its admission requirements search tool.
