Overview
Applied Human Nutrition examines food-related behaviour at the individual and societal level, integrating biological and social science perspectives on diet, health, and food systems. Lecture courses combine biological and social-science content, laboratory sessions provide hands-on application of nutrition science, and small-group seminars introduce students to emerging nutrition research. The program includes a dietetics-focused emphasis accredited by EQual/Accreditation Canada, preparing students to pursue Registered Dietitian credentials after graduation, alongside broader nutrition and food-behaviour coursework for students pursuing other health, food-industry, or research-related paths. Students study human nutrition across the lifespan, food science fundamentals, and the social and behavioural factors that shape eating patterns and food choices. Admission Requirements: Applied Human Nutrition is entered through the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.). Applicants need English (ENG4U), one 4U Mathematics course, Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), and two additional 4U or 4M courses, six 4U/M courses in total; Biology and Chemistry are both required outright rather than chosen from a science list, reflecting the program's nutrition-science content. The admission average is calculated from these six 4U/M courses under the current Ontario Secondary School Curriculum, with equivalent courses counted once and the non-academic component of 4U/M co-op courses excluded from the calculation.
