Overview
The PhD in Human Health and Nutritional Sciences examines physical activity and diet as determinants of human health, with faculty research spanning nutritional sciences, exercise physiology and biomechanics. Students may specialize in Biomechanics and Neurophysiology; Nutrition, Exercise, and Metabolism; or Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences, with optional collaborative specializations in Neuroscience, Toxicology, Regenerative Medicine, or One Health. Coursework is established through discussion with the student's advisory committee, and the program culminates in a dissertation; past dissertation topics have covered aging, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, nutrition, exercise, metabolism and neuroscience. Applicants must secure the support of a faculty member willing to serve as advisor. Full-time study is nominally completed in four years, with a part-time option available. Delivery is on campus, with Fall, Winter and Summer admission on a rolling basis. Graduates pursue careers in academia, industry, healthcare and professional practice.

Admission Requirements: Admission requires a recognized master's degree in a related field, obtained with a minimum academic standing of 80% in postgraduate study, and completion of a course in statistics. Each applicant must obtain the support of a faculty member willing to serve as their advisor. Under exceptional circumstances, transfer from an MSc program without completing the MSc thesis, or direct admission from an appropriate honours degree, is possible.
