Program details
Overview
The Master of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology covers fundamental and applied research on plant, animal, and microbial systems at the molecular and cellular level, across five fields: Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Plant Biology. Students complete coursework alongside a research-based thesis, typically over six semesters, and develop skills in experimental techniques, literature research, and scientific writing and communication. Applicants require a four-year honours undergraduate science degree, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline, with a minimum B (75%) average over the last two years of full-time study; a B-minus (70%) average may be considered in exceptional circumstances with supporting evidence of research aptitude. Full-time completion takes 24 months, with a part-time option available over 48 months. The program is delivered on the University of Guelph's main campus, with intakes in the Fall, Winter, and Summer semesters.
