Overview
This Music program leads to a Bachelor of Music, also offered as a post-diploma completion, and runs four years on the Lethbridge campus. It provides performance-intensive training for singers and instrumentalists, with elective focus areas in performance, history, theory, sound design and composition, alongside music theory, aural skills and musical literature courses; admission requires a studio audition. Students take part in a range of performing ensembles and a composer-in-residence program, and have access to co-operative education (offered to all majors at both undergraduate and graduate levels), international exchanges, applied studies and volunteer opportunities. Admission Requirements: Domestic (Canadian high school) admission to Music (BMus) requires five senior-year courses with a minimum 65% average, one of which must be a required English course (English Language Arts 30-1 in Alberta, or the provincial equivalent) and the remainder drawn from the university's approved subject list, which for this program includes choral, general and instrumental music courses. An audition is mandatory: applicants must complete an audition to be considered for admission. International applicants are assessed on the same academic scale against home-country credential equivalencies through the university's international admissions office. All applicants whose first language is not English must meet the university's English Language Proficiency requirement, most commonly Alberta English Language Arts 30-1 (or equivalent) with a minimum blended grade of 75%, three consecutive years of full-time secondary study in English, or an approved test: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 per band), TOEFL iBT 86 overall (min. 20 per section), Duolingo 120 overall (min. 110 per subscore), PTE Academic 61 overall (min. 60 per part), or CAEL 70 overall (min. 60 per component).
