MA/MS in Religious Studies

The Master of Arts in Religious Studies at the University of Lethbridge is a thesis-based graduate program allowing students to specialize in traditions such as Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, or East Asian religions, or to pursue related research areas including Buddhism in the West, mysticism, near-death experiences, and modern nondual spirituality. The program combines graduate coursework with independent thesis research supervised by departmental faculty, and students are expected to have or obtain the equivalent of one year of study in a classical language relevant to their research area. Delivery is in person on the Lethbridge campus, with admission in the Summer, Fall, and Winter terms. Applicants must secure a supervisor whose expertise aligns with their proposed research before applying. Full-time students typically complete the degree in 24 months, and part-time students in up to 48 months. Graduates pursue careers in counselling, human resources, civil service, religious organizations, humanitarian aid, and museum curation, or continue into law, journalism, or education.
