Overview
This Bachelor of Arts in History, offered through the Faculty of Arts, builds research, analysis, and writing skills through study of regions including Africa and the Middle East, the Americas, Asia, Canada, and Europe, medieval and modern periods, and specialty areas such as intellectual, cultural, political, economic, Indigenous, women's, and diplomatic history; sample courses cover topics from the history of disease and food to capitalism and Latin American revolutions. The degree is offered as a three-year General program (90 credit hours), a four-year Advanced program (120 credit hours), or a four-year Honours program (120 credit hours, minimum 3.00 GPA); an 18-credit-hour minor and a co-op option are also available, alongside general education requirements in humanities, social sciences, sciences, English, and mathematics. Delivered at the Fort Garry campus with part-time study available, it suits students developing strong writing and analytical skills for careers in law, teaching, editing, archival and museum work, journalism, or heritage and cultural agencies, or for graduate study via the Honours route.
