Overview
The Master of Applied Human Nutrition (M.A.H.N.) is a 30-credit-hour graduate program based on national dietetics competencies and accredited under the EQual standard for entry into the dietetics profession in Canada. Graduates become eligible to write the national exam that qualifies them for registration as a Registered Dietitian with a provincial regulatory body. The program is completed in one year and combines 12 credit hours of academic coursework with 18 credit hours of supervised practicum, roughly 85 percent of which takes place in practical dietetic settings across health organizations in Manitoba and 15 percent in academic settings. Coursework and practicum placements run across three terms (Fall, Winter, and Spring), progressing from foundational applied nutrition topics through practice-based dietetics research. Offered by the Department of Food and Human Nutritional Sciences, the program prepares graduates for professional dietetic practice in clinical, community, and food-service settings across Canada.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must have completed, or be completing, an accredited undergraduate degree program before June 30 of the intake year and within the last three years, or hold an academic assessment from the College of Dietitians of Manitoba demonstrating equivalency and confirming that any upgrading requirements have been met. It is strongly recommended that applicants have a minimum grade of B or equivalent in all upper-level (3rd or 4th year) Nutrition courses taken within an accredited undergraduate program, and a grade of B or higher is required in any courses taken to satisfy academic upgrading required by the College of Dietitians of Manitoba.
