Overview

This Master of Architecture is a professional master's degree covering architectural history and theory, advanced building technology, professional practice, and legal aspects of architecture, alongside a sequence of design studios addressing technical, natural, cultural, and artistic dimensions of design. Students complete coursework together with several studio courses and a final design thesis required for graduation. An optional cooperative education stream adds two ten-week work terms. The program is delivered on campus at the Fort Garry campus and takes two years to complete; applicants without a qualifying undergraduate degree can first complete a one-year pre-master's option. Admission normally requires a four- or five-year bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Design, Architectural Science, or Environmental Design with an Architecture option (or an equivalent credential), along with a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The degree is aimed at graduates who want to practice as licensed architects or pursue further post-professional study, combining studio-based design work with the technical, professional, and legal knowledge expected of architecture graduates entering the profession.
