Overview
The First Nations Language Diploma offers a program that allows you to pursue an interest in First Nations language through a concentrated program of courses on a particular language. The program is designed for those who may not wish to commit to a full majors program, persons of First Nations descent, and people who are working in the area of aboriginal education.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: This Diploma builds on the Certificate in First Nations Language; UNBC's own diploma page sets no separate academic threshold, requiring instead successful completion of 10 courses (30 credit hours) in First Nations language, linguistics, and language mentoring or advanced immersion, on top of the Certificate. Admission itself follows the same requirements as any UNBC undergraduate program: applicants are assessed under the standard secondary-school, transfer or post-secondary entry categories (an overall 65% average across five approved Grade 12 courses for direct secondary-school entry), and up to 30 credit hours of transfer credit from another institution may be applied. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet UNBC's institution-wide English proficiency requirement: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no module below 6.0, TOEFL iBT 90 with at least 20 per section, Duolingo English Test 125 with no sub-score below 115, CAEL 70 with no subtest below 60, or PTE Academic 65 with no section below 60. Students should consult the Chair of the First Nations Studies Program before beginning Diploma coursework.

Application Deadline:UNBC's general-entry Bachelor's programs (BA, BComm, BPl, BSc) accept domestic (Canadian/PR) applications continuously with no fixed closing date for either the September or January semester. International applicants face undated, recurring cutoffs that UNBC prints without a specific year: 11 July for September-semester entry and 8 November for January-semester entry; applying later risks missing the documentation needed to study in Canada before the semester begins.
