The Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) in Multidisciplinary Design Engineering lets students integrate one or more engineering disciplines with other fields such as the arts, business, or the humanities, with a Faculty advisor helping each student build a personalized academic path; students choose half of their courses, subject to minimums in mathematics, science, and engineering. Delivered on campus at the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Engineering over four years, the program requires a minimum of 120 credits and includes three internships and 450 hours of community service in place of a co-op stream. Students may design their own focus or choose a learning path such as Aerospace Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, or Integrated Autonomous Systems Engineering. The program is designed to meet Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board criteria and is offered in English and in French. Graduates pursue engineering roles spanning aerospace, human factors, and autonomous systems, or continue to graduate study in engineering design.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants need English 4U (ENG4U) or Français 4U (FRA4U), one of Advanced Functions 4U (MHF4U) or Calculus and Vectors 4U (MCV4U), and one of Biology 4U (SBI4U), Chemistry 4U (SCH4U), Computer Science 4U (ICS4U), or Physics 4U (SPH4U). The published minimum admission average is 75%, notably lower than the other Faculty of Engineering programs, reflecting the program's broader, less STEM-intensive design curriculum. Students missing the mathematics or science prerequisite may take a replacement course at the University in the summer before or during first year. Note that the three-year credential is a Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Design rather than a BASc; the four-year BASc Multidisciplinary Design Engineering variant shares the identical admission line.
