The Honours BSc in Physics is a 120-unit program at the University of Ottawa covering the fundamental laws of nature, with departmental research areas including biological systems physics, condensed matter physics, photonics and geomaterials physics. The curriculum spans 18 compulsory units at the 1000 level in mathematics and physics foundations, 15 compulsory units at the 2000 level in core physics, 21 compulsory units at the 3000 level in advanced physics, and 6 compulsory units at the 4000 level in quantum mechanics and solid-state physics, with 60 units of optional and elective courses completing the degree. The program is offered in English and French, with a French immersion stream and a co-operative education option, in which students alternate academic terms with paid work placements, both available.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: For Ontario secondary school applicants, two of Biology 4U (SBI4U), Chemistry 4U (SCH4U), Physics 4U (SPH4U) or Earth and Space Science 4U (SES4U) are required, together with a minimum combined average of 70% in the prerequisite science and mathematics courses; applicants without Calculus and Vectors 4U (MCV4U) may take a replacement course at the university before or during their first term. Meeting these minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
