Astronomical Sciences is an Honours Bachelor of Science Specialist program offered by the Department of Chemical and Physical Sciences at the University of Toronto Mississauga. The program studies the universe beyond Earth, covering objects and phenomena that do not occur within the solar system, such as planets orbiting other stars, black holes, and forms of mass and energy that make up most of the universe but cannot be directly observed. Because astronomical research draws on multiple scientific disciplines, the curriculum integrates methods and knowledge from physics, mathematics, and computing. Sample courses include astrophysics, vibrations and waves, and computer programming. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with six Grade 12 4U/M courses, including English, Advanced Functions, and Physics, with Calculus & Vectors recommended. The program is identified by OUAC code TMW and leads to an Honours Bachelor of Science degree.
