Overview
Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Regina combines the study of human geography, physical geography, and environmental issues, and is offered as a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts Honours, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Science Honours. The Arts-track programs emphasize the spatial organization of human activity and human-environment interaction, while the Science-track programs build a stronger foundation in physical geography and earth processes. Across both tracks, students examine environmental challenges such as climate change and resource depletion alongside the social and spatial patterns of human settlement and activity. The program is distinguished by applied, field-based learning: training in geographic information systems, domestic and international field trips, and access to a dedicated map library and an environmental research laboratory. Students also have the option to pursue a cooperative education placement for work experience related to their studies. Class sizes are kept small, giving students close contact with faculty whose research spans areas such as erosion, gentrification, and the transition away from fossil fuels. This program suits students interested in environmental and geospatial problem-solving who want a mix of technical training and fieldwork. Graduates pursue careers in urban planning, environmental consulting, geospatial analysis, and government agencies.
Requirements
Minimum GPA:70.00 / %
Admission Requirements: The Geography and Environmental Studies program page sets out no general admission requirements of its own beyond directing applicants to select their student type and consult the Faculty of Arts application guide; it does add that students wishing to pursue the Honours option need an overall average of at least 70 per cent, an average of at least 75 per cent in Geography and Environmental Studies courses specifically, and completion of at least 60 credit hours. Under the University of Regina's general high-school assessment, applicants are judged on a four-course average, with early conditional admission available to Grade 12 students on Grade 11 and completed Grade 12 marks; for Fall 2027 entry the Faculty of Arts sets that average at 70%. International undergraduate applicants pay a $100 CAD application fee and, unless exempt, must show English proficiency: IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6.0), TOEFL iBT 83, PTE Academic 59, CAEL 60, or Duolingo 120.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants to the University of Regina apply for Fall 2027 entry with a recommended early deadline of 15 March 2027 for best course selection and a final new-applicant deadline of 15 August 2027; Winter 2027-28 entry has an early deadline of 1 November 2026 and a final deadline of 15 December 2026, and Spring/Summer 2027 entry closes 15 April 2027. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
