BA/BS in Indigenous Fine Arts

Indigenous Fine Arts at the University of Regina is delivered through the First Nations University of Canada in partnership with the university's Faculty of Media, Art, and Performance. Three credentials are available: a four-year Bachelor of Fine Arts in Indigenous Art, a four-year Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Art, and a three-year combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Education for students preparing to teach art. The curriculum covers the history of Indigenous art as well as modern art and technique, with sample courses including Traditional Indigenous Art, Two-Dimensional Design, Explorations in Indigenous Studio Practice, Pre-Columbian Art in North America, and Indigenous Art and the 20th Century. The program treats Indigenous artistic traditions as a central expression of culture and history. It suits students interested in Indigenous artistic traditions and contemporary Indigenous art practice, including those preparing for a teaching career through the combined BA/BEd pathway. Graduates pursue roles such as artist, art critic, art historian, art instructor, curator, conservator, and art appraiser, applying their training in both historical and contemporary Indigenous art forms.
