Overview
This Bachelor of Arts in Sociology runs four years through the Faculty of Arts, with standard and Honours options, and is also offered through Campion College, First Nations University of Canada, and Luther College. The curriculum examines social life, inequality, and change through topics including power, class, gender, race, Indigeneity, community, crime, environment, agriculture and food systems, education, sport, health, and media, with foundational courses on inequality and social justice, gender and sexuality, and the sociology of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Students can pursue placements through Arts Co-operative Education and Internship programs at government agencies, non-profits, and community organizations, along with teaching and research assistant positions and research or travel funding. The Honours option offers more concentrated exposure to sociology coursework as preparation for graduate study. The program suits students interested in analyzing social structures and inequality who want research skills alongside applied placement experience. Described career paths for graduates include policy analyst and researcher roles in public service, trade unions, and non-governmental organizations, as well as consulting, urban planning, and social services.
