Individual Interdisciplinary Graduate Programs, administered by the University of Saskatchewan's College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (CGPS) through its Interdisciplinary Studies Committee, allow students to design a Master of Arts (M.A.) or Master of Science (M.Sc.) program that crosses traditional department and college boundaries. Rather than following an existing discipline-specific program, each candidate develops an individualized program proposal, with the support of a prospective supervisor, that integrates coursework and research into a concise program not available within a single academic unit. Required elements include an interdisciplinary studies course and the college's general graduate-studies seminar, alongside a tailored selection of specialized courses supporting the student's research. The route is intended for students whose research interests span two or more distinct disciplines and who wish to build interdisciplinary scholarship capacity, culminating in an original research thesis.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is by program proposal: applicants develop a proposal, with the support of a prospective supervisor, describing an interdisciplinary program of coursework and research that is not available within a single discipline-specific program. The proposal is reviewed by the Interdisciplinary Studies Committee together with transcripts, reference letters, an itinerary of supporting coursework, and a list of prospective advisory committee members.
