Overview
This thirty-credit-unit Master of Sustainability prepares students to address sustainability challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, poverty, and social inequality, combining local insight with a global perspective. Students choose between a course-based pathway and a project-based pathway, with the project-based option available only within the Regenerative Sustainability specialization; project-based students carry out applied research in partnership with an NGO, government body, or industry partner. Two specializations are offered: Energy Security, which focuses on sustainable energy development for northern, Indigenous, and remote communities, and Regenerative Sustainability, which focuses on transforming socio-ecological systems toward more resilient futures. The program is delivered on a hybrid basis, in person or online, and is expected to take twenty-two to twenty-four months; no supervisor is required before admission. It suits students who want an applied, flexible sustainability credential that bridges academic research and practical application, whether they are early-career professionals or those already working in a related field, and it is offered through the School of Environment and Sustainability.

Admission Requirements: The University of Saskatchewan's own Master of Sustainability (M.Ss.) admissions page requires a four-year undergraduate degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline, or a three-year first-cycle undergraduate degree from an institution meeting the Bologna Declaration criteria, with a minimum cumulative weighted average of at least 70% (USask grade system equivalent) in the last two years of study (60 credit units). For English proficiency the page states its own scores: a minimum overall TOEFL score of 86 or a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.5, or another test approved by the College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. Applicants must also submit three references (two academic, one academic or professional), a CV or resume, and a one-to-two page statement/letter of intent describing their areas of interest, motivation and relevant experience; no supervisor is required to apply. There is a single September intake each year; for September 2027 entry the domestic deadline is January 31, 2027 and the international deadline is April 30, 2027.

Application Deadline:The University of Saskatchewan does not publish fixed general application deadlines for its direct-entry undergraduate colleges (Agriculture and Bioresources, Arts and Science, Education, Edwards School of Business, Engineering, Kinesiology, Dental Hygiene, Dental Therapy): admission requirements and deadlines for the 2027-28 cycle become available only once applications open on 25 September 2026, and the site gives no separate international closing date. Non-direct professional programs set their own dates instead: for September 2027 entry, the College of Law's JD opens 15 October 2026 with rolling review to a 1 February 2027 documents deadline and is not currently accepting international applicants; the College of Medicine's MD applications close 1 October 2026 for domestic (Canadian citizen/PR) applicants only; and the Nutrition program's single deadline is 15 March 2027 for both domestic and international applicants, with no late applications considered. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
